Lambson's Hire - History Mission Statement

The doors to the Lambson's Hire group were first opened in March 1980 when founder and owner Rohan Lambson took the plunge and set up shop in Orange Grove. Having seen the hire market in Australia through connections such as Coates, he saw a need in the South African market and has continued to service that need for the past 29 years.

The company has 21 outlets spread from Mpumhalanga to the Eastern Cape with Florida being the youngest branch, having only opened its doors in June 2008. The company is continually looking at potential sites for further outlets and the intentions are to form solid hubs within the provinces.

Rohan heads the company with Devin van Zyl, in charge of Operations and appointed as a Director in March 2008. Area Managers oversee the network of branches, which emphasises the strong management structure of the company. Rohan continues to be active in the company and his extensive knowledge of the hire industry is of great value to the continual growth of the group.

The company was founded on the concept that the hire industry is there to provide a machine to do a job. This alleviates the burden of owning and maintaining equipment whether the hirer is a DIY fanatic or a huge construction company. The basis of the plant and equipment available has always been on the principle that if it can be carried on a one-ton bakkie Lambson's will stock it. This has further expanded to if it can be towed it will be stocked and the product envelope has expanded to bigger equipment such as compressors, tower lights and access equipment.

Under the expertise of General Workshop Manager, Philip Groesbeek and Service Manager Philemon Leaba, an expansive team of mechanics and service technicians ensure all hire equipment is maintained in-house which not only goes to keeping down rental costs, but also assures clients of equipment history. All equipment is fully compliant with the rules of the Health and Safety act.

Lambson's offers an account management system for bigger clients whereby a central control is offered for a number of sites. Tammy Purvis - Accounts Manager is head of this department and works closely with her team as well as the Area Managers to ensure the right clients are supported by this management system.

The company has an integrated and well-networked rental programme and this enables clients to hire from any branch. This allows for movement of projects and does not restrict the hirer to using only the branch where the account was opened.

Lambson's Hire has strong roots in the South African market and intends to continue being a reputable member of the economy. The needs and requirements of the industry will, as always, continue to be top priority and service to clients remains the cornerstone of the company.
